Woezo Africa Cultural Festival (WACF)
Woezo Africa continues to use the combined power of arts and education to hold events that promote compassion and understanding from and for the diverse communities with whom we connect. Woezo Africa Cultural Festival (WACF) is a Feature Celebration Site for the 2020 Alberta Culture Days that engages kids and adults alike in activities that showcase the unique histories, artistic traditions and cultural expressions from the African diaspora.
Participants from all backgrounds are able to learn and share through a series of interactive activities, artisan demonstrations, live performances, workshops and more. In line with our community outreach goals, the activities have been organized in collaboration with several community organizations and groups in the Canadian-African communities in Calgary. We are excited to display the combined efforts of local artists and cultural workers in the city to offer three weekends filled with traditional African drum and dance performances, arts and crafts, vocal artists and musicians, comedians and spoken word artists, cooking sessions, educational films and a screening of the 2020 UNGANISHA dance theatre show live-streamed in the comfort of your own home!
We welcome all who are interested in celebrating African culture through our innovative multimedia programming. All youth and adult workshops and events will be open for free to the public and we will be accepting optional Pay-What-You-May donations for admission via live streaming and live audience performances.
